We accept and bill insurance plans that cover our services. Please note it’s our office policy that verification of insurance coverage is the patient's responsibility.
Here are some general guidelines about insurance coverage for services at Oregon Naturopathic Clinic:
In-Network Plans
We are contracted/in-network with Providence and Pacific Source commercial plans only. If you have a plan from one of these insurance companies, and that plan includes services from Naturopathic Physicians, you are covered at the in-network rate. We collect copays and deductibles at the time of service and then submit claims/bill your insurance company. It is your responsibility to be aware of copays, deductibles, and your rate of coverage for imaging and lab work (ordered by us) under your plan.
Out of Network Plans
We are out-of-network with Moda, Aetna, Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare and HealthNet. If you have a plan from one of these companies, and that plan includes services from Naturopathic Physicians, you are covered at the out of network rate. We collect our time of service rate (see table in question above), make one attempt to submit claims/bill your insurance company and will refund you the appropriate amount if we receive payment. We do not follow-up when out-of-network plans do not respond to our claims submissions, but we can provide you with invoices or CMS-1500 forms for you to do that yourself. It is recommended that you be aware of copays, deductibles and your rate of coverage for imaging and lab work (ordered by us) under your plan. If you have an out-of-network plan other than MODA, Aetna, Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United or Healthnet that has Naturopathic coverage we may or may not be able to bill for you. Please contact us to discuss your options for billing.
Cost Sharing Plans
Cost sharing plans such as Liberty, Medi-Share, and Samaritan may have coverage for services from Naturopathic Physicians. We recommend that you call your plan to verify coverage. We do not bill/submit claims to these plans however we can provide you with invoices for services rendered for you to submit to your own plan. If your plan requires you to submit a CMS-1500 form for your services, and you would like us to prepare that form for you, we charge a small fee to preform that service.
Plans with No Coverage
Medicaid/OHP/Trillium/Community Solutions insurance: We are not contracted/in-network with these plans and they do not have out of network coverage. We recommend you see if your plan covers services from Naturopathic Physicians, and if so use your carrier's provider finder to see who is currently taking these plans. Some Naturopathic Physicians accept Medicaid / OHP / Trillium / Community Solutions insurance, but we do not at this time.
Kaiser: We are not contracted/in-network with these plans and our current understanding is that they do not have out of network coverage. We recommend you see if your plan covers services from Naturopathic Physicians, and if so use your carrier's provider finder to see who is currently taking these plans.
Medicare: Unfortunately the federal government does not recognize Naturopathic Medicine and these plans have no coverage for Naturopathic Physicians. However, there are some Medicare Advantage/supplemental plans that have coverage for services from Naturopathic Physicians. If you have one of these plans please call your carrier to verify coverage.*
*If you are interested in obtaining a Medicare Advantage plan that covers Naturopathic Physicians you may want to consider consulting with Lou Ogden. He has helped some of our established Medicare patients find coverage for our services. He is a licensed life and health agent who used to be on the board of the Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians https://louogden.
VA Benefits: Unfortunately Veterans benefits do not cover services from Naturopathic Physicians. If you have experienced combat/conflict in the line of duty please read the "Special Populations Discount" section in the "Do you see patients who don't have insurance?" question.
*Herbal and Nutritional Supplements are rarely, if ever, covered by any existing insurance plan and we do not bill for them. You must pay for the full cost of supplements at the time of sale. HSA/FSA accounts may be used to pay for supplements if they are prescribed by Dr. Kim for a specific medical condition in accordance with IRS Publication 502.
